Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, FL – April 22, 2025 — A pedestrian died late Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Okeechobee Boulevard near Vista Parkway, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO).

The incident occurred on April 21, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m. Investigators say Vehicle 1, a 2023 Ford F-150 driven by Mathew Jay Holcomb, 49, of West Palm Beach, was traveling eastbound on Okeechobee Boulevard in the inside center lane.

At the same time, the pedestrian, identified as Alan Higginbotham, 62, of West Palm Beach, was walking southbound across the eastbound and westbound lanes of Okeechobee Boulevard outside of a crosswalk. As Holcomb changed lanes into the inside lane, the passenger-side mirror of the vehicle struck Higginbotham, causing him to be thrown into the outside eastbound lane.

Holcomb brought his truck to a controlled stop following the collision.

Higginbotham was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 11:40 p.m. that night.

PBSO reports that alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in the crash. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains active.
