PBSO, State Attorney’s Office, and FDLE Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting in West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, FL – April 26, 2025 — Authorities are investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning during a domestic violence incident in West Palm Beach.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m., Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) deputies responded to reports of an armed confrontation at a residence located in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive. Upon entering the home, deputies encountered a violent scene: a male suspect was actively stabbing another adult male with a sword.

Deputies issued verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. When the suspect refused to comply, a deputy discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Deputies immediately provided medical aid to both individuals. Despite life-saving efforts, both the victim and the suspect succumbed to their injuries at the scene.


2nd UPDATE – Victims Identified

PBSO has identified the deceased victim as Tyrone Riser, born September 9, 1972, and the deceased suspect as Alfonzo Riser, born January 27, 2005. Authorities confirmed that Tyrone and Alfonzo Riser were father and son, and both lived at the residence on Emerald Dunes Drive.

Investigation Status

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) are conducting an active and ongoing investigation into the incident.

As per department policy, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
