Residents and visitors in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach are urged to exercise caution as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area. The advisory highlights two main concerns: a high risk of rip currents along the Atlantic Coast beaches and hazardous marine conditions for local waters. Additionally, there is a chance of thunderstorms early next week.

Day One: Today and Tonight

Rip Currents: A high risk of rip currents is in effect for Atlantic Coast beaches, including Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can pull swimmers away from the shore.

Safety Tips for Beachgoers:

  • Swim only at beaches with lifeguards on duty.
  • Pay attention to posted warning flags and signs.
  • If caught in a rip current, remain calm and do not fight the current. Swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current, then swim back to the beach.
  • Never swim alone, and keep a close eye on children and inexperienced swimmers.

Marine Conditions: Northerly winds around 20 knots will create hazardous marine conditions for both the Atlantic and Gulf waters today. Seas across the Atlantic waters are expected to range between 5 to 7 feet. Boaters should exercise extreme caution and consider postponing trips until conditions improve.

Days Two Through Seven: Saturday Through Thursday

Thunderstorms: A disturbance moving through the area on Monday and Monday night could bring thunderstorms to South Florida. A few of these storms may become strong to severe, with potential hazards including:

  • Hail
  • Gusty winds
  • Frequent lightning strikes
  • Heavy rainfall

Residents should stay alert for updates and be prepared for possible severe weather early next week.

Rip Currents: The elevated risk of rip currents is expected to continue through the weekend and into early next week. Beachgoers should remain cautious when entering the water.

Spotter Information Statement

Spotter activation is not expected at this time. However, residents are encouraged to report any significant weather conditions, such as unusually strong currents, hazardous marine conditions, or severe thunderstorms, to local authorities or the National Weather Service.
