Rep. John Snyder (R-Stuart) today presented HB 209, the “State Parks bill,” with Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman (R-Boca Raton) as co-prime sponsor, as it passed the Florida House unanimously with a vote of 115–0. Having cleared both chambers of the Legislature, the bill now moves to the Governor’s desk for signature and enactment into law.

Prompted by proposed commercial developments in state parks across Florida — including plans for golf courses and Pickleball courts in areas like Jonathan Dickinson State Park — this bipartisan legislation establishes permanent protections for public lands. HB 209 bans new commercial construction in state parks, preserves native wildlife habitats, requires public hearings for any land use changes, and mandates transparency in all park management planning.

“Jonathan Dickinson is an incredible place,” said Rep. Snyder. “I’ve got amazing memories there — canoeing and camping with my family — and when I got a text last year about possible development plans in our state parks, I couldn’t believe it. This bill ensures we preserve the old Florida we know and love.”

Sen. Harrell (R-31) carried the Senate companion bill, which passed on Wednesday.

Rep. Gossett-Seidman added, “Our parks are not just scenic escapes — they are irreplaceable public lands. They are not for sale. With this legislation, we are guaranteeing that future generations will continue to experience Florida as it was meant to be: wild, natural, and protected.”
