A front row seat at New York’s Fashion Week is no longer on my bucket list. After an outdoor reception on the plaza at the Christine Lynn University Center on Lynn’s Boca Raton campus, guests were ushed into an elaborate setting for the 23rd annual Lynn Fashion Showcase. Even the mannequins were in evening wear.

The program book with a stunning model on the cover was a hint at what would come next. Lynn’s v.p. for academic affairs, Katrina Carter-Tellison introduced the event with students and pro models and an elaborately painted runway. “This runway is more than a stage, it tells a story,” she said.

As the program attested, this is a collaboration of students from the college of communication and design and college of business and management. And if that sounds academic, it’s the complete opposite.
Cue the models, the music and a voiceover narration by Delaney Smith, a PR major. Models wore collections from well-known local designers like Amanda Perna and Michelle Farmer, and Terry Singh’s surprising men’s fashions were all with skirts. A Singh second collection featured couples in similar ensembles. Mexican designer Paulina Luna was inspired by a Japanese architect. Fashion Designers of Latin America presented Cuban designer Alejandro Barzaga’s creations.
Like every professional runway show, each finale concluded with all the models and the designer to generate applause by spectators, among them Boca’s leaders and philanthropists. Lynn president Dr. Kevin Ross was there, as was Christine E. Lynn, the presenting ‘Haute Couture” sponsor. Among the other sponsors were Carrie Rubin, who also chairs Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation’s annual Go Pink luncheon, and Barbara Gutin, who everyone was happy to see emerge.
