At approximately 10:21 AM, a 2023 Kia Carnival, driven by 28-year-old Deosaran Nanan, was traveling eastbound on Forest Hill Boulevard. Nanan suffered a medical episode, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The Kia crossed over the median and traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes, striking 71-year-old bicyclist Stephen Salansky, who was preparing to cross Forest Hill Boulevard from north to south in a marked crosswalk.

The collision caused Salansky to be thrown into the air, and the Kia then struck a pedestrian crossing signal and sideswiped a concrete pole before coming to a stop in the grassy area. Salansky was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nanan was transported to Wellington Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

PBSO is continuing to investigate the incident. The driver, who was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, has not been charged at this time.
