BOYNTON BEACH, FL – The Boynton Beach Police Department (BBPD) is actively investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead and five others injured.

The shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. on January 21, 2025, near the 500 Block of NE 2nd Street in Boynton Beach. BBPD officers responded to multiple 911 calls and arrived at the scene to find five individuals with gunshot wounds. Boynton Beach Fire Rescue transported the victims to local hospitals. A sixth victim later arrived at an emergency center by self-transport.

  • James Laurent (3/15/1988) – Lake Worth, FL – Remains in the hospital in stable condition
  • Josue Jean (9/25/1990) – Boynton Beach, FL – Remains in the hospital in stable condition
  • Keith Clemons (8/24/1986) – Port St. Lucie, FL – Released from the hospital
  • Derrick Dorsonne (1/19/2001) – Delray Beach, FL – Released from the hospital
  • Jephte Matilus (8/10/1992) – Delray Beach, FL – Released from the hospital

Investigation Update

The initial investigation indicates that the shooting resulted from an altercation between two individuals at a gathering. Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident.

On March 13, 2025, BBPD investigators announced that Davon Wood appears to have been the primary aggressor in the incident. Based on evidence, witness statements, and information gathered during the investigation, the case meets the criteria for Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law. However, the investigation remains active, and detectives continue to seek additional information.
